These selections can be seen in 5 separate programs which consist of the best films made within the last two years. This collection of films highlight what is new and exciting in the world of independent animation and each of these programs is a must see at this GLAS 2021.

Black Square
Directed by Peter Burr
‘Black Square’ is a short film that examines ways we endure contemporary life in the grid. It animates a philosophy of perception through an assault of optical illusions, highlighting limitations of one’s body and mind. An assembly of human figures writhe and squares strobe in rhythm to audio sampled from the opening of the 1965 Op Art exhibition “The Responsive Eye”. Through the friction of this contrast, a portrait emerges of an anxious divided society pushing at the boundaries of our teetering attention.
Natural Selection
Directed by Aleta Rajic
Woman-Doe works as a professional exhibit at the museum in which she hangs from a wall as a dead animal alongside the rest of the trophies of the same kind; deer and doe heads. The life she lives is a definition of a routine; she spends her free time walking about and cleaning her apartment. One morning, after a terrifying nightmare, she notices that small horns grew out on top of her head. This makes it impossible for her to pull her head through the hole in the wall at the museum. She knows she will be punished in one way or another, and her only way out is towards freedom…

A shy, withdrawn boy has his heart on being in the school theater group, but the only role offered to him is that of a crab.
Hide

Two boys are playing hide and seek. One of them finds the perfect hiding spot….and never comes out. Life carries on outside.
